The Cambridge Summer Music Festival - About Us
From a simple birth in 1979, promoting organ music in Cambridge chapels, the festival now fills the summer air above the city with the sounds of soloists, chamber ensembles, small orchestras and large choirs from Bulgaria, South Africa, Australia and other corners of the globe.
The 2008 Festival runs from July 18th to August 9th.
What makes the Festival special?
• It is renowned for presenting concerts in historic and acoustically beautiful locations, using the chapels and halls of the universities; Kings, Trinity and Clare for example, as well as the city’s churches and concert halls.
• The chance to enjoy internatonal artists in intimate and inspiring surroundings. Artists include The Academy of Ancient Music or Aurora, The Nash Ensemble, Maggini Quartet, King’s Consort, The Yale Whiffenpoofs, Alberni String Quartet, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, City of London Sinfonia, and Willard White.
• A programme of uncompromising quality, reflecting our desire to ensure that the future of music everywhere is in the hands of the next generation. We do this through a programme of concerts and workshops that
- Give children the chance to grow up having music inside them
- Give rising young musicians a platform to perform
- Give composers the chance to create
All we ask is that you to give a little. A donation to the Festival will help to secure a healthy future for classical music.
Thank You.
